The following is a one page suggested RFP for galvanizing dump truck bodies.
Galvanizing coatings can be applied to manufacture products or be applied after purchase to bare steel fabricated bodies from suppliers. The following (short form) galvanizing spec is provided to customers who wish to include hot dipped galvanized dump truck bodies specifications in existing or future bid quote, request for pricing procedures.

The galvanized dump body coatings shall meet the
American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) testing standards:
- Coating thickness: A 123 & A 153 Zinc (Hot-Dip Galvanized) Coatings on Iron and Steel Products. Coating thickness shall be 3.9 mils or greater.
- Pre delivery adjustments, additions, and attachments: A 780 Repair Hot-Dip Galvanized Coatings. Highest level (Level 1). All areas visible from the street level exterior image area defined as sides and rear gate, cab shield, shall meet a minimum standard of 99.9 percent coverage at time of galvanizing. Middle Level (Level 2) All areas subject to abrasive action of load material, underside of dump body, shall meet a minimum standard of 99 percent coverage at time of galvanizing. Hidden area (Level 3) All interior cavities, tubes, boxes, shall meet a minimum standard of 97 percent coverage at time of galvanizing. The galvanized coating shall be continuous, adherent, as smooth and evenly distributed as possible and free from any defect that is detrimental to the stated end use. Visual inspection, coating thickness measurements, and adhesion testing shall determine the integrity of the coating per ASTM standards.
- A. Modification areas: Areas modified by welding, flame cutting, or during handling, transport shall be repaired by one of the following methods whenever the effected area exceeds 3/16" in width on flat surfaces or 1/10" on cut ends will be galvanized by one of the following methods. (a) Level (1) blemishes shall be coated with paste flux and zinc based solder to a minimum thickness equivalent to that of the original coating. (b) Middle level (2) blemishes will be repaired with Cold Galvanizing Compound and conditioned with zinc-rich paint.
- Painting:The manufacture shall provide technical assistance for the purposes of painting selected fabricated components. The manufacture shall provide MSDS material sheets and procedure required for application of paint should this elective procedure be desired.
